Cricketer Cup Final

Sunday 7th August saw the final of The Cricketer Cup, played at Arundel Castle Cricket Club, between Bradfield Waifs and Old Millfieldians.

I was pleased to be there as a sponsor of the tournament and, unlike the year before, it was a gloriously sunny day for cricket.

I was delighted to see so many supporters of the Waifs wearing their Manyatta belts and a huge thank you in particular to Peter Came, Rupert Cox and Mark Taylor. These 3 gentlemen have been great supporters of Manyatta by buying stock and spreading the word.

Bradfield Waifs will hopefully not mind me saying they went into the match as underdogs, certainly not because of a lack of ability but simply because Millfield is a school so dedicated to its sport.

So thanks to a last wicket partnership and a superb bowling and fielding performance, Bradfield Waifs ended up trouncing the old Millfieldians - I can't remember exactly the winning margin but it was comfortably over 100 runs.

Although, of course, strictly neutral as a sponsor, I cannot deny it was great to see a club who have been so supportive, triumph.

Mark Nicholas handed out the medals, Nicholson Gin as the title sponsor presented each winning Waif with a bottle of its gin, and finally I handed out gift vouchers for the 12 participants.

A stunning day all round and well done Bradfield Waifs - I believe they indulged in one or two slimline tonics that evening.......
